Industrial vibes for Sammy & Ben at The West Mill

Bride & groom in front of The West Mill Derbyshire

Every time we head to The West Mill we get excited - a venue which we have always loved and are recommended suppliers for.

The historic grade 1 listed building situated on the banks of the River Derwent was chosen by Sammy & Ben for their special day.

It's such a unique setting in a former cotton spinning mill and has such industrial yet chic & cool vibes. The exact look and feel that Sammy & Ben wanted.

We asked them both to share their thoughts on their day and here's what they had to say...

Tell us a little bit about your wedding day…?

I'd like to say we were very relaxed throughout the whole planning of the wedding and on the day - we were planning it for three and a half years so were very organised, but we do think that is mainly because we worked with some fantastic suppliers for our wedding who really did make the biggest difference.

A lot of our suppliers came on the recommended list from our venue, so we felt really comfortable working with the suppliers as they knew the venue already - much more than us! The West Mill was the first venue we visited, and we both instantly fell in love with it, it was perfect and really matched our personalities.

We felt that the venue really did speak for itself and decided that when it came to styling we did not want to over-do it so we were unsure of where / how best to do this. All suppliers really did give their expertise and made us feel so comfortable - we had all confidence in the day!

Lesley and Team Rustic really helped us in making our visions come to life, working with our florist they really produced beautiful pieces which the pictures just show how wonderful they looked.

Everything went so smoothly on the day and we really do believe it's due to our fantastic suppliers and their professionalism and passion for what they do. We wanted our wedding to be very relaxed and show our nearest and dearest having fun and having a lovely day together.

The weather was beautiful and being able to spend time outside after the ceremony, next to the river was just perfect.

What was your favourite part of the whole day?

Sadly, Sammy's Dad passed away 9 months before the wedding, and Lesley gave us a really touching idea to have a picture of him at the top of the aisle, on a seat with a flower to pay tribute to him, he was a big part of the planning process.

Walking up the aisle I did not see it, until we were signing the register and it was so lovely to see, and our Photographer captured some lovely pictures of it.

Also, being able to spend a good amount of time with our family and friends in the sunshine - a few days before it was the heatwave of 2022 so we were a little worried it may be TOO warm, but it was perfect!

Which styling element did you love the most?

We would love to say everything, however we are quite big fans of Disney (we got engaged in Walt Disney World Florida, and then honeymooned in Disneyland California and Walt Disney World in Florida).

We wanted a small nod to Disney somehow, we worked with Lesley on a great table plan idea in that the guests would find their fast pass hanging on pegs and then take it to find their table - the fast passes and table names were different rides in Walt Disney World. It was a subtle but great nod to our love of Disney!

Any top tips for engaged couples?

Don't put too much pressure on yourselves, everyone is there because they care about you both - make sure you enjoy it too!

Why did you choose Team Rustic?

Team Rustic were on the venue's recommended supplier list, and we did a bit of google / instagram research and Team Rustic were perfect, looking at previous styling it was just what we wanted and Lesley and the team were amazing to work with!

Thank you so much Mr & Mrs Parker for your wonderful feedback and thank you once again for choosing us to style your wedding.
